Vocational Team

 

Job Title: Vocational Consultant
Reports to: Vocational Administrator

 

Summary: Vocational Consultant may be full or part time position working with individuals with disabilities providing vocational rehabilitation services.  This position includes: determining appropriate  jobs, volunteer or retirement activities that are consistent with participant desires, aptitudes, and skills; educating and assisting participants with the job search process; maintaining accurate case files, recording activities and time spent in vocational activities; consistently communicating verbally and in writing with participants, families, and referral sources. This is a non-exempt position, represented by SEIU, Service Employees International Union.

 

Description of Essential Functions:   Works in collaboration with VCS Vocational Services Administrator, Vocational Consultant Team Lead and other team members.  Works directly with referred participants.  Promotes, develops and markets for appropriate job leads.  Assists participants in obtaining job seeking skills i.e. applications, interviewing techniques, resumes, and self-directed job search practices.  Assists participants in making vocational choices and evaluates supports necessary for job readiness.  Creates employment plans.  Determines employment setting most suitable to participant desires, aptitudes, and abilities.  Provides on the site job coaching/training for participant.  Supports employers in understanding support strategies and reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities and their specific employee.  Markets, educates, and acts as a liaison with area employers.  Extensive record keeping to include: writing reports, time sheets, case notes, and billing forms.  Develops working knowledge of funding streams to support participant goals and objectives.  Develops working knowledge of Social Security system as it relates to employment.  Communicates with participants, family members and support staff, state rehabilitation counselors, other referral sources and employers.

 

Qualifications, Education, Experience:.  Minimum 1 year experience or education in provision of services for persons with disabilities.  Working knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation process and related activities is helpful.  Marketing experience helpful.  Excellent communication skills, creative thinking, and the ability to work independently are essential.  Organizational and time management skills are necessary.  Must be able and willing to learn in both formal and informal settings, take direction, and be a self starter/self monitoring.  Must be able to meet the agency requirements to drive agency-owned vehicles.  Must meet approval requirements for work with persons who have disabilities by Washington State Patrol and the Department of Social and Health Services.  A current Washington State Driver’s license, ability to obtain current First Aide and CPR certification and certification in knowledge of Blood borne Pathogens.     

 

Physical Demands: Medium.  Work is frequently performed inside and occasionally outside with exposure to environmental factors when traveling or working at jobs in the community.  Work frequently involves sitting, driving, standing and walking.  Involves occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting in participant transfers from wheelchair, pushing, pulling, crouching, and reaching.  Frequent finger use to handle pen and paper and operate general office machines such as: TTY, FAX, copier, computer, printer, and telephone.  Frequent near acuity vision to read computer screen and written material.  Frequent turn of the neck while driving.  The work environment is that of a well lit, well-equipped office with the noise levels usually low to moderate.  Other physical demands may be present when working with employers in the community.
